LymanBig Dipper Casting Kit (115-Volt)

This kit is what I needed to get into the world of bullet casting and reloading. With the high price of bullets these days, it only seemed logical to start casting my own. This kit came with the Lyman 4th edition bullet casting book. WOW! I was expecting a little 4 page booklet. Nope! The real thing. I started casting a few days later after getting some pure lead shots from a local shop. It was fun, easy and rewarding to see something I read about as a kid come to life with my own hands. Be warned though, this is hot molten lead we are dealing with so be careful and read up on casting. This Lyman Big Dipper Casting kit has everything that you will need to get started in the casting bullets world. Just add some lead, tin and you are on your way. I highly recommend this kit.

I bought this kit to cast bullets for large caliber (.54-.58") Civil War era rifles. It melts a pot of lead in about 20 minutes and maintains temperatures within a reasonable range. With a little practice I am able to cast good quality bullets. I recommend getting a thermometer so that when you find a temperature that works well with your bullet size & mould, you can recreate that temperature next time.This kit is a good deal, it is all I need.

Works well wish the dipper was a little bigger to ease the filling of the ingot molds but works good with my 3 hole bullet cavity. I would buy again. The book was very helpful in getting started and also has reloading data.

The pot gets hot and melts lead. The dipper dips, I don't have a lubrisizer so the bullet lube is not really getting used. The book it comes with is very usefull, not only for casting tips and techniques, but load data, some of which is not in the lyman 49 manual.

Everything you need to get started casting bullets. My only regret is that with the amount of wheel weights I have to melt I wish I had bought a 20 lb pot.Now that I have done 40 pounds I can see where a bottom pour spout would speed up the process. All in all this is a great little set for starting out or someone who is doing small batches

It works beautifully. It's consistent with it's temperatures, and is extremely easy to use. the book that comes with it is a must-have for anybody who is thinking casting their own bullets, and if you want can you mix your own alloys the ingot mold is a great thing to have.

A GREAT kit with everything you need to start making cast bullets! Heats up quickly. The mold is perfect for making the lead ingots and having them ready for your bullets. The book has lots of good information, including reloading power loads for different caliber bullets and bullet weights. Exceptional price too!

It does as advertised. It melts lead.I don't much care dor the temperature control. It just needs an on/off switch. it keeps cycling power and it keeps the lead in a liquid with oxide layer on top.Which leads to my only complaint. Having to dip out of the thing is counterproductive. You can't get what's at the bottom so you lose lead. And you catch lots opf oxide and trash in the scoop. Cleaning it off. Just oxides more lead.If I had to do it over again, I'd just buy one that drips out of the bottom.Other than that, it comes with a wide range of useful stuff. It's a pretty decent ollace to start. Especially if you are just making sinkers or something that doesn't matter if it has an imperfect cast.

Works good with silicon molds,do not ever reuse for baking ....
