Orangewood Oliver Grand Concert Acoustic Guitar with Solid Cedar Top

I just got an Orangewood. I went though a whole thing to prove that there are buzzing strings because of high frets. In the end the techs suggested that I play softer and use a lighter pick. It is unacceptable to change my playing to makeup for a bad setup.

Great guitar, great price. It was pretty well set up, I just needed to adjust the truss rod a little with the included wrench. Good strings, stays in tune, sounds great, not to mention it's looks awesome. Very nice gig bag.

This guitar was... Okay. I didn't expect amazing quality for the price, but what I'd read online led me to expect more than what I got. Of course, tone--which was my main complaint--Is very individual, so don't discount this instrument just because I didn't like it. Let's go over what was good and bad, positives first.* The setup was very good. The action is quite low, which is how I like it, and the tuning wasn't too far off. Considering it was shipped across the country, that's not bad.* The bag it comes with is great. It's not something I'd use to transport the guitar on a flight or anything, but if you need something to carry it in while driving or walking, this bag will do nicely. It has padding, comfortable-looking shoulder straps, a super soft interior, a nice-sized pocket on the outside, and a strap that can go over the neck, near the nut, if you want. The zippers feel solid, too. Orangewood clearly trust the bag, as it was the guitar's only padding during shipping, save for the cardboard box.* There are two strap buttons! The cheap guitars I've run into before always have a button on the end, but nothing near the neck. No need to tie the strap onto the neck on this model, though, as there's a button on the heel, right where you'd expect. That's great to see.* The guitar comes with a pick guard and a neck adjustment tool. The latter is nice if the action proves too low, though, again, mine was perfect. The former is great; I'm not a huge fan of pick guards if I have the choice, so not having to have one on this guitar was a good feature. I can understand some people not liking having to put the guard on, but I consider this a great feature, not a bug.* Customer service was prompt and helpful when I emailed them, first about their suggestion on which Orangewood model to try, then later about a return.Now, the bad. No need for a list here: it's all tone. Sure, the body was a bit larger than I expected, but I could have checked the dimensions. The tuners could be better, but they're what I expect at this price. No, what got me was how bad the tone was. Despite being solid cedar with layered mahogany back and sides, the sound the Oliver C makes is closer to spruce, and not great spruce at that. I can best describe the sound as jangly. The bass was almost not there in the mix, and the highs tended to dominate. There wasn't much warmth or depth to the sound, despite the larger body and the cedar/mahogany combination. I own a Koa Taylor, and my understanding is that cedar is similar to mahogany or Koa in its tonal qualities, so to hear so imbalanced and poor a tone surprised me. I've played a Washburn Lyon, which is around the same price as the Oliver C, and got much better tone from that.Overall, this is a very comfortable guitar to play, and it is set up well. As a starter, you could do worse. However, I think you could also do better. If you're an experienced player looking for a practice instrument, or one to take places your nice ones shouldn't go, the Oliver C will work but may not be the best option in the world. All this isn't to say that another model from Orangewood might not be better, and again, this guitar was comfortable and seemed in good order when I got it. I just didn't like the tone of this one. I wouldn't recommend the Oliver C, but the company does a good enough job on the setup, and provides a good enough bag, that I'm not comfortable writing them off completely.

For the price point this guitar plays very well, has a compensated bridge for good intonation. This guitar would sell well at a small music shop or even a big box store.

Remarkable quality for a guitar in this price range. Solid wood top - nothing fancy about the aesthetics. Set up to play easily by the Orangewood factory in California. Tuning pegs are decent and the guitar holds tune. Mine has one idiosyncrasy that I can live with. The space between the D and G strings is wider than the other string gaps. I could correct that by dropping a new saddle in - but why bother. Good mahogany tone and an easy playing campfire guitar for less than $200. Get one, you won't be disappointed.

Great quality at any price, plays well, sounds great. Quality and coonstruction similar to Taylor guitars at $1000 price point. Better feel than most Martins or Yamahas. You will not be disappointed. Only lesser quality items are plastic nut and bridge. They do work well and without issue, believe bone or Graphtech upgrades would be a good investment.

This Orangewood Austen Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar is a really nice guitar for ones in this price range. It has a pretty good tone and is actually a nicely crafted instrument. I am very happy with this guitar!

I was surprised when I opened the box, the guitar looks great. it plays just as good as it looks. Good action, for the price you can not beat this. I will send an update later after I have played it for a while, but so far I am extremely happy with this purchase
