AKIRA TORIYAMA THE WORLD (ARTBOOK VO JAPONAIS)

Great book for fans of toriyama and illustration in general.

I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend. I was looking for a book that featured a large amount of Toriyama's mechanical designs. In that respect it does not disappoint. The only major down side is that it left me wanting more. There are plenty of Dragonball vehicles not featured here. This book focuses on his earlier works, so you won't see everything here (Nothing from things like Go Go Ackman, or Sandland), let alone later volumes of Dragonball (called Dragonball Z in the west). Overall, a solid buy, and a great addition to my art book shelf.

Full stop, this is not going to be a complete archive of Akira Toriyama's art. By the look of it, this is a book collecting his works from the 80's. Goku hadn't even encountered Raditz yet, and Dragon Quest games don't go beyond the NES. And even for the 80's this book is missing many illustrations. There is also no english text in this book at all except for the ones drawn by Toriyama.But it's still a very nice collection of full color drawings. I am of the opinion that Akira Toriyama's art was at it's strongest before Dragon Ball Z took off, and his style became a lot more angular and rugged to accommodate for his more masculine heroes and villains. You can easily see this looking in this book at anything other than the Dragon ball and Dragon Quest illustrations. The insane level of detail in the clothing, machinery, and animals is outstanding.It absolutely KILLS me that mainstream audiences will only ever associate his art with their very surface level knowledge of Dragon Ball Z, because he has always been so much more than that.

This book is exactly what I wanted. Toriyama's drawings are abosolutly wonderful. Looking at them instantly makes me feel like a kid again. This book focuses on Toriyama's earlier work. Nothing from 'Z' is here. About 100 full color pages. Entirely in Japanese.

当時発売された画集の再販です。鳥山先生の世界観に浸れて素晴らしいです。中身は完全に当時のままなので新書ですが、レトロな雰囲気もあります。

ページは少ないですが、この本でしか見れない鳥山明や内情などを知ることができます。おすすめです。
