I'm not sure why people complain about the yellow coating - it just doen't get in the way and helps mitigate chalky hands. These are a very good value. Good quality chalk. For the one or two that may be broken in half during transport, this is easily rectified with some waterbased craft or wood glue. Apply to both surfaces and squeeze together and let sit for a few hours. The interface does not get in the way of its performance. A+++

I found myself doing street art during the pandemic and was creating some decent designs. Figure I'd be set forever with 72 4"x1" white chalk sticks. I did read the warnings about the yellow coating so I knew what I was getting. Can honestly say the yellow coating will not prevent dust, and it is yellow. If you don't get rid of it, you will see yellow and white. I am going to try light sandpaper which I think should work. The other problem with this chalk is that it's very powdery and does not adhere well. For bulk filling, it may be fine, but it's not a good product, though it was cheap.

I use chalk as part of my job for insurance adjusting, so I go through a lot of chalk. I imagine it's not easy shipping chalk sticks in a way where they won't break, but out of the 72 sticks in the box, only 44 were intact. I thought about returning it, but I need the chalk and just tossed the smallest pcs. and still have a fair amount left to work with. Just forego any illusions this will arrive with 72 actual pcs.

It's chalk. Nothing fancy. It's thick, strong and stands up to writing on rough surfaces like wood and metal. The crate is huge, and I have not come across broken sticks yet, so I suppose that's based on handling by the shipper.My one gripe is the yellow coating. I don't see that it helps with dust, and it does transfer to what you're marking, which I find annoying. Dixon doesn't put any such coating on their other colors. I want white chalk, sans yellow smudges. But it's easily scraped off, and I use the cheap plastic holders (elsewhere on Amazon), which make it more comfortable and reduces the so called chalk dust on the hands.

I've recommended this chalk to my clients for the last 12 years. I've been using it for 28 years. It's softer than "Driveway Chalk". Yes, you'll get powder all over your hands but that's ok. We use it to "chalk up" a cotton cord, just to "snap a chalk line". It's a much easier process, ( dragging this stick across the cotton cord ) than it is refilling a chalk box with powder. And, my clients also write on the parking lot. It's a great choice. Thanks.

Some conversation about chalk dust on your hands. Count me as a weird one, because I like the dust. Rinses right off and for some reason it feels satisfying on my skin. It also writes excellently. I do really wish it did not have the yellow coating on it. Otherwise it is amazing. I will order more. It came on time in a nice box with no broken pieces. Thanks

Well packaged - not a single piece was broken. This is really strong chalk and perfect for our use to keep score for our outdoor (FL) shuffleboard program. The chalk does write like it is yellow until it gets used for awhile, then it becomes white. The outside yellow coating is to help protect the chalk and also to protect your fingers from getting all chalky. We have purchased this product from this company for years and have never been disappointed.
