I am hooked.

I have a handlebar moustache (and no hair on top). I've tried a number of moustache waxes. I've made my own. For a was to hold my moustache in place, it must be waxy. This requires heat to make it pliable. It's not the easiest product to deal with. While cleaning my bathroom, I stumbled on old surfer hair putty, and while it was not marked as being super strong (and it wasn't) it was very easy to work with. So I decided to try hair putty and I arrived here. Yes it's pricey, but not more than commercial moustache waxes. It is somewhat difficult to work with (compared to surfer putty) but much much easier than a firm wax. Much easier. I don't get the extreme points that a wax gives me, but it's so much easier to use. For everyday use when I'm not trying to put your eye out, this putty works great. I'm a fan.

I would say this is better for your hair overall compared to store bought brands just because of the ingredients alone, comparatively I would say it feels a bit like Every Man Jack, American Crew, Mitch , or Tea Tree Shaping Cream, that initially feel like a soft pomade but get progressively aggressive. The former, like Every Man, having a slightly stronger hold after the 'glue' substance sits in, whereas petes is a moist-dry rub on that doesn't get as stiff. It gives a natural looking style, so very little shine, a finger amount is usually enough to rub and apply, even with thicker hair. The warmer it gets the easier it is to put on, it comes off easy with water and doesn't smell like a medicine cabinet but more like a barber shop. It doesn't mess with your hairs oils or leave a greasy residue. The pro of it's user friendly approach can be it's con to some people, yes it's easy to wash but that means it's easier to come off, yes it's very maleable to shape and style but that means it's not as hard across the whole day. I wouldn't complain to having this in my repertoire, as it doesn't feel gooey and it compliments men with textured hair or layers. It beats out 80% of the competition for being functional but I would mark 1 point off the "hold" scale it advertises.

At first, I was annoyed with the higher base price compared to other men's hair products and having to pay the $5 for shipping when I could get other hair products with free Two-Day Prime shipping. However, the shipping was extremely quick, and the product itself is out of this world. I might sign up for the subscription plan to cut shipping costs in the future now that I know how good this stuff is.First off, the putty smells absolutely amazing. It's like a mix of some type of floral lavender and maybe some clean soap. It also has a very strong hold and very little shine. I haven't had any of the flaking problems that some others are talking about. I do recommend, though, taking the time to rub it in to your dry hands thoroughly and evenly before applying. The jar of product should also last me a long time because I find myself using very little product in each application because of how strong the hold is, while an application of the product does indeed hold hair for the whole day.In the future, I may check out Pete and Pedro's pomade because I think my current, subtle hairstyle actually is better complemented by shinier products, but it's easy to add shine, if desired, with the putty by adding some leftover hairspray, pomade, or gel into the mix. Anyway, definitely give this stuff a shot if you are looking for a great styling product with high hold and low shine for short to medium length and thick (or thinner) men's hair.EDIT 1/9/17: I have now tried P&P pomade too, and it's great, but the putty is really what I'm looking for for my current hairstyle. I just had an AMAZING hair day with the putty, and I can say it beats all the big competitors out there, namely American Crew Fiber. Aside from the amazing smell of the putty, it holds exactly how you leave it ALL day. It doesn't become slightly droopy and lose a bit of hold after a few hours like American Crew Fiber does. My hair also feels a bit healthier after using the putty versus when I used the fiber. DEFINITELY give this putty a shot.

I’ve tried soooo many hair products. Want good hold that lasts without fake shine or looking plastered. This is the best one I’ve used. Workable, too.

This is a follow up review based on a recent Dec 2024 purchase. Ive switched between direct purchases and via Amzn. I always compare products for consistency. I received the putty yesterday with 2 day shipping. The plastic container and lettering looks different for some reason. I opened the container and noticed the putty is separated on the sides from the container. In direct purchases, the product has never separated from the container during shipping nor in prior purchases from Amzn. Rather than guess, Im returning and will buy on the P&P website. Long time fan of the product as a little goes a long way with hold and style ability. Plus, easy to wash out daily.P&P Putty is one of the better men’s products. I have used several other putties, hair creams, and pomades; each have their own pro and cons. P&P is the best so far as I only need a little to last. I have medium length straight hair. I’ve learned to warm my hands before adding a dab to my palm and then rubbing between both hands. If my hair is damp, I’ll apply by running my fingers thru my hair. If dry, Ill add a few drops of water to my palms and rub before applying to my hair. P&P leaves a natural look without any residue. Less is more with this product.
